Tosin Oyewale studied biochemistry at the University of Agriculture in Nigeria and received a M.Sc. degree in medical molecular biology from the University of Westminster, UK. Tosin’s interest in developmental biology led him to study the maternal-to-zygotic transition in germ cells, focusing on the control mechanisms of maternally donated mRNA regulators. By combining CRISPR/Cas genome engineering with other genetic and molecular analysis techniques in his PhD thesis, Tosin identified a protein degradation pathway that eliminates the major positively-acting poly(A)-tail machinery in primordial germ cells of the animal model Caenorhabditis elegans.
