EMBL, Heidelberg, Germany
Toby Gibson studied at the University of Edinburgh, UK, from 1977 to 1981 for a BSc in Molecular Biology. He obtained his PhD from the University of Cambridge, UK, in 1984 for research conducted at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology where he also worked from 1984 to 1986 as a postdoctoral fellow with Nobel laureate Sydney Brenner. In 1986, he moved to the EMBL in Heidelberg for a second postdoctoral position, before being appointed as an independent staff scientist in 1991 and as a team leader in 1996. Toby Gibson’s research interests revolve around computational work on protein sequences, protein interactions and networks. He and his team undertake computational analyses of macromolecules and develop tools to enhance sequence analyses.
