Ilja Gordijenko

Ilja completed his Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Chemistry at Johannes-Gutenberg-University Mainz before pursuing a Master’s in Chemical Biology at the Technical University of Dortmund. During his master’s thesis, he focused on the purification and biophysical characterization of the CCR4–NOT complex, as well as the biochemical analysis of its interactions with stapled peptides.
Following his studies, he began an internship as a scientific assistant at the Institute of Molecular Biology (IMB) in Mainz, joining the Yeast Genetics and High-Throughput group. There, he gained hands-on experience in molecular biology, genetics, and high-throughput screening systems.
He is now undertaking his PhD at Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg, where his research centers on the biophysical investigation of parathyroid hormone (PTH) — a well-known intrinsically disordered, functionally amyloid peptide. His work integrates fluorescence spectroscopy, NMR spectroscopy, and cell biological approaches to deepen the understanding of PTH’s structure, interaction, and amyloid fibrillation.
